Cruise Vacations
Cruising: From Exotic to our Not-so-Familiar Backyard
Aboard any number of cruise lines it’s possible to touch all seven continents –
the world has officially shrunk! Brave the Drake Passage, en route to Antarctica
or enjoy a walking tour in Shanghai, affectionately known as the Paris of the East.
Warm up in the South Pacific, swim the turquoise waters of the Caribbean or enjoy
the historical charm of Bermuda or the Bahamas. And, if you prefer not travel so
far afield, consider exploring our own backyard. Many Canadians, though they may
be seasoned travellers, have never taken the opportunity to explore our diverse
land. Explore Halifax’s harbour on a schooner or visit our neighbours to the south,
New England, who offers quaint charm and a unique perspective on our closely-tied
history.
Culture, History and a Great Meal!
As many cruise aficionados can attest, strolling exotic ports, taking in the local
flavours, the culture and history, is one of the greatest benefits of cruising.
Sampling many different destinations in one vacation is everyone’s dream! Easily
fit in a Mediterranean cruise with a few days in the ancient city of Athens or combine
a river cruise in Eastern or Northern Europe with a city break. Mexico, a fascinating
destination offering everything from beach holidays to ancient Mayan ruins, can
serve as a launching site for a memorable Caribbean cruise. For most of us, finding
time to fit in so many countries or cities would be near impossible in a land-based
itinerary, but aboard a cruise, anything is seemingly possible! And, all the while,
you are wined and dined with scrumptious meals and attentive service.
History and Romance of Cruising
Cruising has a deep rooted history for many Canadians. With so many of us sharing
the experience of relatives travelling Transatlantic to new shores, to new opportunities.
History is ever-present on an Alaskan cruise, where towns and villages have depended
on these waters for its livelihood for centuries. For cruise lines like Cunard,
whose history dates back a century and a half, the romance of yesteryear remain
a core part of their cruise style, even today.
